Joanna graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in Cinematic Arts and Spanish in 2013. She graduated from Boston University School of Law in 2017. During law school, Joanna interned for the Honorable Juan R. Torruella of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. After law school, she worked for several years in private practice, which included pro bono work in humanitarian immigration defense. Beginning in 2020, Joanna began clerking for the Honorable Silvia Carreño of the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. Joanna joined the Federal Public Defender’s Office in 2021.
